Un-Holy Week

Lent was non exsitent for me this year. Aside from going to mass on Ash Wednesday, I didn't do anything at all in preparation for Holy Week. I didn't go to mass every Sunday (which is pretty much a requirement even during ordinary times). I didn't avoid eating meat every Fridays. I didn't get to see a palaspas during Palm Sunday. I didn't even pray that much on my own! So yeah, it really is an un-holy Holy Week for me this year.

Today is Good Friday. And I am at work. Yes, the holiday that all Filipinos observe is non-existent here. True, the Company has declared this day as a holiday. Unfortunately, our team was asked to work overtime due to the high volume of work coming our way. But as it is supposed to be a non-working day, we are being given free lunch: Kababs. (Don't get me started on the weird way they spell kebobs here) Now how incosiderate is that!? They know that a lot of people here are Catholics, why serve a meat dish?! They did give the option of Veggie Kababs but who wants to eat tomatoes and onions on a skewer?! Mental, I tell you... But as they say, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones... I ate Lemon Chicken yesterday, Holy Thursday. Hahahaha!

Tomorrow is the day that we leave this forsaken place. We get to go back to the Philippines!!! I really cannot wait... I've almost finished packing my stuff, almost ready to go. But we do have a 12 hour stop in LA so I'm meeting up with some high school friends, get to tour Hollywood, and hopefully see a star or two... I just wich we can stay there a bit longer... And even if it's still technically Holy Week, Black Saturday is a day of fun for me all the time. Because back in the Philippines, we usually hold our family outing during this day hahaha...

After that 12 hour stop in LA, we leave at 9 Saturday evening and we get to arrive in Manila at 6 Monday morning... Where the heck did our Sunday go?!?! Hahaha... So we miss out on Easter Sunday... Maybe there will be an Easter Egg hunt onboard... Sana lang!

From Moulin Rouge to AI

I have to be honest. I'm not really a big fan of music. Sure, I know a great song when I hear one but I don't exactly tune in to the radio everyday or watch MTV or follow all the latest acts out there. That's why when I watched Moulin Rouge, a musical that uses the songs of other artists, I don't know half (or even more!) of the songs that were played.

Enter American Idol. Even if I am not a big fan of music, I am a big fan of reality or talent shows, hence my idolizing Idol. By watching this show, I've been learning a lot about music. I get to hear new songs, learn who sang music that I like, and get to know more about the different genres. This week, the theme was the music of Queen. And the song that was sung by the last contestant was "The Show Must Go On." And it was a song from Moulin Rouge!

Hearing the song was such a joy to me... It was so weird hearing it in a non-musical movie way! And hearing it in that arrangement made me realize the genius of Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge's director. I mean, how the heck can he create such a gret story and find songs that would fit that story?!?! Genius, really I tell you. Now if I can only find out the origins of the other songs in the movie...

Somebody To Love

Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you're doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord!
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache my bones
At the end I take home my hard earned pay all on my own -
I get down on my knees
And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
Lord - somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me - somebody to love?

(He works hard)

Everyday - I try and I try and I try -
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I'm goin' crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
Yeah - yeah yeah yeah

Oh Lord
Somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
I'm ok, I'm alright
Ain't gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I'm gonna be free, Lord!

Find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel
the flair for theatrics is coming back...

this can't be good. madami lang maiirita sa akin...

You're Bringing Out the Elvis in Me!

I love Katharine McPhee. Plain and simple... I really love her and would want her to become the next American Idol! Every season, there are one or two contestants that really stands out for me, who I know can be someone that I can obsess over. And this season, it is Katharine.

This week, the theme for AI was country music. And as usual, I'm hard pressed to find a performance that I will love as I do not know this type of music that much. But halfway into the show, Katharine came out with this very unfamiliar song called "Bringing Out the Elvis" and I LOVED it!!! Now I didn't love the performance just because it was Katharine (I actually hated her performance last week). I loved it because the song was good and the singing was great.

I also have a crush on this girl. I think she is so beautiful! Oh yes, the gay guy has a crush on a gal! Hahahaha... I haven't had a crush on a girl for quite a while now but this is one big-time crush! She really is bringing out the Elvis in me... She makes my hips want to swing!!!
